Our history

Doctors' C.I.C.S aka Doctors Welfare Scheme, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan was created in 2005, following a resolution made at the Association of Resident Doctor (ARD) Ordinary General Meeting (OGM). Dr. O.S Obimakinde, former ARD president was the visioner. The co-operative society started with fifty six (56) members, with minimum monthly contribution of N10,000. The initial period was rough and tough, as a result of which some members withdrew their memberships. Despite the challenges, the co-operative society survived the "teething" period. Prof. Abiodun Ilesanmi who was the Chief Medical Director of UCH Ibadan at that period, was of tremendous assistance to the survival of this scheme. The first Doctors Welfare Scheme Chairman was Dr. A.M Folasire, he helped the Scheme in conducting her first Annual General Meeting (AGM) in December, 2005. During this AGM, the first executive president of Doctors' Welfare Scheme, Dr. B.J Adekunle was elected alongside another pioneer executive officer, Dr. Adeyemo Adebolajo. Doctors' Welfare Scheme shared the same secretariat with the Association of Resident Doctors until August 2010 when Doctors' Welfare Scheme secretariat was commissioned by Prof. Abiodun Ilesanmi. The scheme has grown in resources with over six hundred (600) members.
